Internally, collation,liv+392pp, illustrated with a foldout frontis and 19 other illustrations and a foldout map of the Island of Otaheite in a pocket at the end, no writing or marking, pages in very good clean condition. The author spent just over fifty years of his life as a missionary on Tahiti and the neighbouring islands. This is his manuscript history, supplemented by the writings of other missionaries, covering the time from the early phase of disillusionment through three decades of political and economic change.
